John will not be offering the 1/2 day programming to children 4-5 years old this summer. In his words, "sadly, without a dedicated building at the Refuge, I am unable to earn the appropriate license for the programs that I have designed for children in this specific age group. Given that the buildings our program uses at the Refuge are shared with the general public, I have no recourse. Regrettably, these nature-loving children will have to wait until they are of age"
John Babiak Presents . . . Through enrichment classes including ‘Kitchen Science Just for Kids’, ‘Popular Science 4Kids’ ‘Nature Rangers’ and ‘Under the Big Blue Sea’, John engages his students in popular science, technology and nature related topics. As a “character-based educator”, a.k.a. Nature Ranger John, Farmer John, Chef John, or Scientist John, John Babiak has come to appreciate that young students learn best through a cooperative discovery process. Together they explore, appreciate and gain knowledge. His students learn to be patiently and use their senses. John assists students perform hands-on experiments and activities. Demonstrations using resources from local museums and regional educational centers, as well as from his rather extensive science and technology library are part of his teaching approach. In addition to learning and having fun, emphasis is placed on working safely, teamwork and maintaining good character. John has been developing and leading enrichment classes since 2002. Previously he worked in the biotechnology industry for over two decades. He directs the Nature Rangers Summer Day Camp at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge located in Metro Denver. He is a licensed youth soccer coach. He is a member the Professional Association of Colorado Educators, North American Association for Environmental Education and the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Fusion Soccer Club and the Friends of the Front Range Wildlife Refuges Group. John is the father of one son in kindergarten, another son in third grade and a daughter in seventh grade middle school. |
